SKIRON

Skiron (or Argestis or Maistros or Nortwestern wind) is for our area dry and cold in the winter, but in the summer he becomes strong and harsh. He causes unrest in the production of vegetables and affects people’s health. His name come from the Skioronides Rocks (“Kakia Skala”), because the ancients believed he was blowing form there. His sculpted figure pictures him with dark characteristics and a frowning face. He has messy hair and beard, wears heavy clothes and in his hands he holds a heavy vessel upside-down. Studiers assume that it is an ash container the spreads ashes and burning coals symbolizing the hot nature of the NW wind. Together with other winds, Skiron was the Son of Io and Astraios.
